Abstract:
The objective of this study was to observe the bioavailability of the soybean selenoprotein with the sodium selenite as reference. Male SD rats were chosen as the experimental object to establish the low-selenium animal model. The rats were given soybean selenoprotein or sodium selenite by intragastric administration. Selenium content, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) activities in blood, liver and kidney of the rats were determined to compare the bioavailability of the selenoprotein and the sodium selenite. Compared with control group, both the selenium contents and the activities of the selenoenzymes were enhanced significantly (P<0.05). Much higher tissue selenium accumulation was caused in the sodium selenite group. The activities of the selenoenzymes in the soybean selenoprotein group were higher than that in the sodium selenite group. Results suggest that the soybean selenoprotein is high-efficiency and low-toxicity, and the effects of its absorption and utilization are superior to the sodium selenite.
