Abstract:
The physical properties of biodiesel were estimated based on the fatty acid methyl ester composition of the oil in terms of the estimation techniques of pure component and the mixing rules of liquid mixtures.The computation program used to predict the physical properties of biodiesel including fifteen kinds of fatty acid methyl esters was developed by means of Matlab software,and the main physical properties of the soybean oil-based methyl ester biodiesel were estimated and the accuracy of the estimated methods was analyzed.The calculation results show that the accuracy of the modified Rackett equation for the density estimation of biodiesel is higher than other methods.The Sastri-Rao method for the viscosity prediction of biodiesel at low temperature is more accurate than others;both of the accuracies of the Miller method and the Macleod-Sugden correlation applied to predict the low temperature surface tension of biodiesel is higher than others.It is suggested that Sastri method should be used to estimate the thermal conductivity of biodiesel.
