Abstract:
With the growing problem of global energy shortages and environment deterioration,the protection of the natural environment of mankind’s survival becomes an urgent solution.As a high quality biological liquid fuel,biodiesel has been favored all over the world.In this paper,low temperature performance and rheological properties of biodiesel/petrodiesel blends were studied to find influencing factors and rules of low temperature characteristics of biodiesel and to find ways of improving its cold flow properties.Cold filter plugging point,solidification point and viscosity of biodiesel diesel blends were measured by a multifunctional low temperature instrument.The low temperature fluidity and rheological property of the biodiesel diesel blends were tested on a rotatory viscometer.The results indicate that blending of biodiesel with petrodiesel considerably improved the viscosity-temperature performance and low temperature fluidity.The influence of shear rate on apparent viscosity of the blended fuels varied with temperatures.Under the temperatures higher than the cold filter plugging point,the influence of shear rate on apparent viscosity was not obvious.Under the temperatures lower than the cold filter plugging point,the apparent viscosity of the blended fuels decreased remarkably with increasing shear rate,especially at lower temperatures.
