Abstract:
A nut rient solution ex periment w ith eight soybean genotypes w as carried out to study the mechanismsof soybean further in adaptation to low P st ress and to elucidate the relationship between these adaptive responsesin the f ield and in nutrient solution culture so as to provide valuable experimental data for rapid genetic improvementof P eff iciency in soy bean .The results indicated that there w as significant genotypic variation in P ef ficiencyamong the eight soybean geno types tested .Based on the overall P efficiency (defined as biomass)and P acquisitionef ficiency (defined as P co ntent), the results generally resemble those in the field ex periment .Geno typeBX10 and GD1 w ere P efficient but non -responsive ;genotype BD2 w as P inef ficient and non -responsive ;geno type BX11 and GD2 were P inefficient but responsive ;geno type BD1 w as P ef ficient and responsive ;theo ther geno types , GD3 and GD4 w ere unstable in the performance .Moreover , there w as no significant genotypicv ariation in P utilization efficiency (defined as biomass produced per uni t P content)among the eight soybeangeno types , indicating that P utilization eff iciency contributes less than P uptake ef ficiency to overall P eff iciencyof soy bean even under hy droponic condi tio ns .Therefo re , the overall P ef ficiency of soy bean w as mostly determinedby P acquisition efficiency even in nut rient solution culture .Differing f rom that in the field ex periment ,the P -efficient genotypes had relatively longer root leng th and larger root surface area in nutrient solut ion culture.This indicates that root mo rphological t raits mainly affect P acquisition efficiency under conditions w ith uniformdist ribution of available P in the g row th medium .
