Abstract:
Inheritance and variat ion of seed protein content in soybean crosses w as analy zed using various progenies, F2 -F6 and F2.3 -F5 .6 of tw o crosses made w ith 4 soy bean parent s having different seed protein content.Means , variat ion coeff icients , variation ranges from genet ic segregating generations were est imated using F2-F6 population derived f rom sing le seed descent (SSD)and F2.3 -F5.6 lines randomly selected f rom F2 -F5 generation of tw o crosses and were compared w ith those from no n -seg regating parental population .Means of proteincontent were similar among F2 -F6 generations .Variation coef ficient and variation ranges for pro tein contentbecame lower with the generation advanced .Variability of protein content amo ng plant s wi thin the linesF2.3(F2 -devi red F3), F3 .4 , F4.5 , F4 .5 , F5.6 lowered f rom early to late generation .Variation coeff icients andranges of F3 .4(cross Ⅰ)o r F4 .5(cross Ⅱ)lines were comparatively similar to those among plant s w ithin a parentalv ariety , indicating that no genetic variabili ty in protein content w as being seg regated in the F3.4 or F4 .5 generationof the lines .It w as recomanded to initiate selection for pro tein content of soy bean seeds in those progenies ofa hybrid .
