Abstract:
Grow th respo nses of so ybean seedlings to w ho le plant flo oding and stembasal f looding w ere studied. The g row th o f soybean seedling s entirely ceased underw hole plant floo ding co ndi tions. How erer, the seedling s co uld co ntinue to g row andw ere no t drow ned as lo ng as terminal buds of soy bean seedling ex po sed to the ai r.Surv ivabi li ty o f seedling s under w hole plant f looding co ndi tio ns increased wi th aging ofseedling s. Treatment of soybean seedlings wi th basal floo ding severely inhibi ted primaryroot g row th of seedlings, decreased the ro ot-shoo t ratio and g rea tly stimulated theg row th of adv entitius ro ot s. The ex perimental result s show n that soybea n plant s couldg row a nd develop under basal flooding conditio n th ro ug ho ut thei r life, but dev elo pmento f thei r vegetativ e a nd reproductiv e o rg an remarka bly reduced as compared to co ntro lplants. The nodule g row th of soybea n plant roo ts w as inhibi ted by f looding.
