Abstract:
The major agro nomic characters of Southern spring soy beans w ere studied on thei rautumn sowing v ariation, co ef ficient of genetic va ria tion, heri tabi li ty and g enetic gainby w ay of sow ing two di fferent maturi ty g roups o f Southern spring soy beans including12 early ma turing and 12 medium maturing v arieties o r lines in tw o dif ferent seasons, i.e. , spring a nd autumn. The result s show ed that:1. Except bra nch begins heigh t, all the o ther ll cha racters had a po sitiv e va ria tion of2. 36% - 52. 88% in autumn sowing v ariatio n rate in bo th maturity g roups, which indicatestha t sow ing in autumn ha s some effect s o n al l these cha racters. There also existeddi fferences in autumn sow ing rate o f the cha racters betw een the two maturity g roups, e.g. , autumn sow ing had a w eaker ef fect o n pla nt height , nodes of main stem, effectiv enodes, basal pod heigh t, pods of main stem and 100- seed w eig ht w hi le a st rong er effecto n branch begins heig ht and po ds per branch in early ma turing cultiv ars than in mediummaturing o nes.2. The co ef ficient s o f genetic v ariatio n of the same cha tacters v aried g reat ly w ithdi fferent cul tiv ars and maturi ty g ro ups.3. The heritabilities of plant heig ht , three- seed pods and 100- seed w eigh t in earlymaturing cultiv ars and 100- seed w eight in medium maturi ty g roup w ere al l ov er 70%rega rdless of the sow ing seasons of the cultiva rs, indicating that selection to these charactersis effectiv e in spring o r autumn o r bo th sowing seasons.4. The heritabilities and genetic g ains of pla nt heigh t, number of bra nches, basalpod heigh t, po ds o n main stem, pods per plant in early ma turi ty g roup and tho se o f effective nodes, pods o n main stem, one- , tw o- and three- seed pods and 100- seedw eight in medium maturi ty g ro up w ere higher in autumn sowing season than tho se inspring sowing season, which sug gests that selectio n to these cha ra ters has a better effectin autumn sowing season than in spring season.
