Abstract:
Three cultiv ars adapted to ferti le soi ls of No rtheast China , o ne cultiva r ada pted tolow land acid red soil and six local v arieties g row n in low - P soi ls of So uth China w ereused to evaluate dif ferences in tolerance o f low - P soil. The ex periment w as co nductedin acid red soi l and P levels w ere 0, 2. 5 a nd 5g ( as Ca( H2 PO4 ) 2· Ca( SO4 ) 2 ) each 2. 5kgsoil po t, respectiv ely.The result indicated that sig nificant v arietal dif ferences were abserved under low -P st ress, and the cultiv ars obtained f rom Nor theast China w ere no t tolerant to low - Psoil, but cul tivars, such as Zhe Spring 2 and some o f cultiva rs from South China, w eremore adapted to low - P o r medium low - P soi ls. Under di ffering st ress, bo th dryw eight of root and shoo t fo r ″G Z Spring″w ere signi fica nt ly high est and it s dry w eigh tso f roo t a nd shoo t increased a s the increase o f P supply. At 2. 5g P lev el , the cultiv ars,Mei zhou Spring , Na n X and Zhe Spring 2, reached the hig hest root dry weight andabove 90% of the highest shoot dry weight , respectively. This indicated thei r hig hertolerance to low - P soi ls. The correlatio ns betw een plant heig ht , root dry weight andshoot dry w eight w ere positiv e a nd signi fica nt under low - P st ress, indica ting that all ofthese cha racters can be used sati sfactorily as t rai ts fo r the idi fica tion of di fference of soybean in to lerance to low- P soil. Leaf dry w eig ht per uni t leaf area w ere higher at low -P level. Pho tosythesi s rates of reached the highest value fo r each low - P, tolerance andmiddle to lera nt v arieties at 2. 5g P level, w hich w as dif ferent from tha t of intolerant cultivars. Low - P tolerance in cultiv ars were not related wi th the temperatures of leaf andinternal leaf and t ra nspiratio n rate.
